Senior leader of Rastriya Swantra Party D.P Aryal has been declared unanimously as the speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR).
In the meeting of the House of Representatives held on Sunday, the senior-most member, Arjun Narasingh KC, announced that Aryal had been unanimously elected as Speaker. The schedule for filing nominations for the Speaker’s post was set for last Friday, and only Aryal’s candidacy was registered on that day.
Rule 7 of the House of Representatives Regulations provides for the election of the Speaker. According to this rule, if only one nomination is registered for the Speaker’s position, after a supporting member speaks in the House, the presiding officer declares the proposed member unanimously elected as Speaker.
