Nepal govt introduces two-day leave system

KATHMANDU — In a strategic move to curb fuel consumption, the government has officially announced the implementation of a two-day leave, effective from March 6.

Government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel confirmed following Sunday’s Cabinet meeting that both Saturdays and Sundays will now be observed as public holidays. This new schedule applies to all government offices and educational institutions nationwide.

  •  Effective Date: Monday, April 6
  • Scope: All public sector offices, schools, and universities.
  • Primary objective: To mitigate the impact of ongoing difficulties in the global petroleum supply and reduce operational costs.

“The decision was necessitated by the current pressure on petroleum supplies,” Pokharel stated. “By extending the weekend, the government aims to significantly reduce the consumption of fuel and electricity across public sectors.”
