Mass Detentions and Delhi Lockdown Fail to Halt Protests Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

NEW DELHI — In an unprecedented crackdown, Delhi Police have detained four former Chief Ministers—Pinarayi Vijayan, Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, and Manik Sarkar—along with key political leaders and thousands of protesters, including youth and student activists. The sweeping wave of detentions took place amid nationwide demonstrations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

Despite massive security deployments and heavy curbs across the national capital, public anger has spilled onto the streets. Aggrieved citizens and political cadres continue to gather at major transit hubs and public spaces across New Delhi, including ITO, the Safdarjung Flyover, and Dilli Haat.
