Kathmandu- Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal, is leaving for Port Louis, Mauritius, on Thursday to participate in the Indian Ocean Conference 2026.
Khanal is attending the conference at the invitation of India’s Minister of External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The ninth edition of the conference will be held from April 10 to 12 and is being organised by the India Foundation in association with the Government of Mauritius.
This year’s conference will take place under the theme “Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance.”
During the event, Minister Khanal is expected to deliver Nepal’s national statement outlining the country’s perspectives on Indian Ocean governance, the ecological link between mountain and ocean systems, and the importance of maritime connectivity for economic development.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Nepali foreign minister is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from participating countries. Minister Khanal is expected to return to Nepal on April 13.
