Controversial remarks made by Parliamentary Party leader Ram Bahadur Thapa in the House of Representatives have created unease within the CPN-UML. Senior party leaders, including Bishnu Poudel and Yogesh Bhattarai, have objected to his statements.
In Parliament, Thapa claimed that the Nepali Army, civil servants, and foreign forces were behind the victory of the Rastriya Swatantra Party in the March 5 elections. His remarks have been seen as going against the party’s established positions.
To discuss the issue, the UML has called an emergency meeting of its party secretariat.
Thapa was only recently selected as the leader of the UML parliamentary party on Wednesday. Despite concerns raised within the party regarding his leadership, he was appointed to the position.
