The Parliamentary Hearing Committee of House of Representative has rejected the nominations of two ambassadorial candidates and put a third nomination on hold, while endorsing 10 other nominees, including those proposed for India, China and the United States.
The committee rejected the nominations of Giribahadur Sunar, the proposed ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and Chudamani Kharel, the proposed ambassador to Malaysia.
Sunar’s nomination was rejected following questions about his moral conduct and his past deportation from Germany, among other concerns.
Similarly, Kharel faced questions regarding an alleged conflict of interest, financial irregularities, links with manpower business operators and his qualifications.
With the committee rejecting their nominations, the proposed appointments of Sunar and Kharel as ambassadors to Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, respectively, cannot proceed through the current approval process.
Meanwhile, the committee failed to reach a decision on Wednesday regarding the nomination of Jigyan Kumar Thapa as Nepal’s proposed ambassador to Japan. It decided to put his nomination on hold pending further consideration.
The committee endorsed the nominations of 10 other ambassadorial candidates, including those proposed for India, China and the United States.
