Kathmandu– In a serious blow to Sushila Karki-led government, Supreme Court has issued an interim order not to implement the government’s decision to recall ambassadors.
A joint bench of Justices Sharanga Subedi and Shreekanta Paudel issued the interim order, instructing that the government’s decision to recall ambassadors should not be implemented until a final verdict is reached. The interim order comes at a time when those Ambassadors are in the process of return from their posting.
The order says: “Since the final decision will determine the outcome, an interim order is hereby issued to the respondents not to implement, enforce, or cause to be implemented the decision made by the Council of Ministers on Ashoj 30 (mid-October) regarding the recall of ambassadors, and to maintain the status quo.”
The order further reads: “It appears that such a decision could potentially affect Nepal’s international relations. Among the 17 residential ambassadors appointed on the same date based on the then Council of Ministers’ recommendation, the decision to recall and dismiss only 11 of them shows no stated reason or justification for doing so.”
