Iran closes Strait of Hormuz

Iran has said it will not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz unless the United States lifts what it describes as a blockade on its ports. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh also stated that no date has been set for the next round of face-to-face talks between the two sides.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) blamed the ongoing US blockade for its decision. This announcement comes just a day after Iran’s foreign minister said the crucial global shipping route had been temporarily reopened.

In a statement on Saturday, the IRGC Navy warned that “no vessel is to move from its anchorage in the Persian Gulf or the Sea of Oman,” signaling heightened tensions in the region.
