KATHMANDU — The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has issued a nationwide high-alert weather bulletin following the formation of a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
Meteorologists warn that heavy rainfall activity will intensify across Nepal from September 25 to 27. Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are expected to bear the brunt of the storm, with localized extremely heavy downpours. Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Sudurpashchim provinces will also experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds.
Authorities have warned of major hazards:
- Flooding & Landslides: Swelling rivers and streams pose serious inundation risks to the Terai region, while soil erosion, landslides, and debris flows threaten hilly zones.
- Travel Disruptions: Highway networks, local roads, and domestic flights face high risk of weather delays.
- Sector Warnings: Paddy farmers are urged to consult agricultural experts before harvesting, while trekkers and mountaineers are advised to exercise extreme caution due to anticipated snowfall in high-altitude zones.
