Nepal government to monitor social media

Nepal government has decided to step up monitoring of social media content to prevent possible misuse during the election period.

A meeting of the Central Security Committee held at Singha Durbar decided that authorities will take strict legal action if any illegal activities are found. The meeting, chaired by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, was attended by the Home Secretary, the Defence Secretary, and the chiefs and representatives of all four security agencies.

The committee reviewed the tasks being carried out by the concerned agencies in line with the Integrated Election Security Plan 2082, which has already been approved and is under implementation. The meeting also reviewed plans for manpower deployment and logistical arrangements for the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

The four security agencies briefed the committee on their preparedness under the election security plan. The meeting also analyzed the overall security situation and potential security challenges related to the elections.
