TikTok Partners with EC to advance election integrity

TikTok has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) to support election integrity efforts targeting the March 5 elections.

As a part of the partnership, a TikTok delegation also conducted a capacity building Election integrity workshop, focusing on promoting responsible digital engagement, combating misinformation, and strengthening the understanding of election integrity among key stakeholders.

Ahead of the 2026 Nepal General Elections, the workshop introduced ECN officials to TikTok’s approach to protecting electoral processes on the platform, including its Community Guidelines and policies on misinformation, political content, and deceptive behaviours. Attendees were briefed on TikTok’s tools and features that help users access reliable information, report potential violations, and better understand how election-related content is managed on the platform.

“Elections are a critical moment for any democracy, and TikTok recognizes its responsibility as a platform that helps shape public discourse. Through this partnership, we aim to support informed participation, promote election integrity, and provide a safe space for positive digital expression,” said Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations, South Asia at TikTok.

“The Election Commission welcomes this collaboration with TikTok as part of our efforts to promote election integrity and responsible use of digital platforms. Partnerships like this help strengthen awareness around misinformation and support informed participation during the electoral process,” said Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson, Election Commission, Nepal.

TikTok will continue to collaborate with the ECN and relevant stakeholders to bolster election integrity and safeguard a reliable information environment for its Nepali community. As a global platform, ensuring election integrity is essential to upholding user trust, reducing the risk of misinformation, and supporting healthy civic participation.
