Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Tap Bahadur Magar, has urged all concerned parties to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted in a peaceful, fear-free, and human rights–friendly manner.
Speaking at an interaction program in Kathmandu on Wednesday titled “Elections and the Role of Stakeholders for the Sustainability of Democracy,” Chairperson Magar called on all sides to respect citizens’ human rights and to refrain from engaging in or encouraging any undesirable activities that could disrupt the elections. He emphasized that all parties must work together to ensure the elections are held peacefully and without fear.
He also stressed that all stakeholders should exercise patience and restraint, avoid making indecent or hate-filled remarks targeting others, and refrain from publishing or broadcasting materials that could disturb social and cultural harmony. He said all sides must take such matters seriously.
Magar further stated that election expenses should also be transparent. Describing the provision requiring the opening of a bank account for election purposes as very practical, he emphasized the need for transparency in those bank accounts.
