Nepal PM Calls on All Citizens to Vote in March 5 Polls

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the country has succeeded in establishing the rule of law and is moving forward steadily on the path set by the Constitution.

In an address to the nation, the head of government stated that this progress is the result of the patience and cooperation of all Nepali people. She urged citizens to make the upcoming election peaceful, fair, and historic. In her address, she appealed to the public on four key issues. Nepal is holding national elections on March 5 in the aftermath of the September 8–9 Genz protests.

Prime Minister Karki’s first request to all voters is to participate in the upcoming election to guide the country toward political stability and prosperity.

“Casting a vote is not merely stamping an election symbol to make someone win,” she said. “It is a decision about what kind of future you want for yourself and your children. Therefore, I sincerely urge you to set aside other tasks and go to your polling center to vote on Thursday,” she added.

On the eve of the election, Prime Minister Karki called on everyone to maintain peace and harmony.

“Peace is Nepal’s true identity. Elections involve healthy competition and differing views, but there should be no hostility or animosity among us,” she said.

Thanking all political parties and independent candidates contesting the election, she added, “It is your active participation that keeps our democracy alive.”

She also urged all political parties, candidates, and supporters to strictly observe the code of conduct during the silence period and to carry out election campaigning in a restrained and respectful manner before the silence period begins.
