Rival factions within the Nepali Congress have accelerated preparations to hold a special general convention, citing the demands of 54 general convention representatives. Party General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has taken the lead in organizing the event.
According to party leaders, a large hall in Kathmandu has been booked in the name of the Nepali Congress Special General Convention Organizing Committee. The group is planning to hold the convention in Kathmandu on December 13–14.
However, just two days earlier, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba had ruled out the possibility of convening such a convention before the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.
