NC President Deuba Steps Down, Khadka Named Acting President

Sher Bahadur Deuba

In a significant political development, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has officially stepped down from his position, appointing Purna Bahadur Khadka as the acting party president.

Addressing the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, Deuba urged members to ensure that the party’s upcoming general convention is held on time.

The decision comes amid growing pressure from within and outside the party, particularly following a wave of Gen-Z-led protests demanding the retirement of long-serving political leaders. Deuba, along with other senior leaders of major political parties, has faced increasing calls to step aside and pave the way for a new generation of leadership.
