Government, Political Parties Begin Talks on Elections

One month after the Zen-Z protests rocked the country, formal negotiations have begun between the government and political parties, facilitated by President Ram Chandra Poudel.

The meeting, held at the President’s Office, was attended by representatives of major political parties. However, top party leaders—currently facing public backlash—chose not to attend. Prime Minister Sushila Karki did not organize the meeting herself, reportedly out of concern that it might provoke further unrest among Zen-Z protestors.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Karki reiterated the government’s commitment to holding elections in a free and fearless environment. Her statement comes amid growing criticism from political parties, who argue that the government has failed to create a conducive atmosphere for elections.

Karki emphasized that elections cannot proceed without the active participation of political parties and urged them to seriously consider the demands raised by the Zen-Z movement during the recent protests.
