Fast-track receives 45 percent progress

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has inspected the Kathmandu-Terai Madhesh Expressway, a national pride project. Speaking at a program in Khokana, the PM directed the authorities to take residents’ concerns seriously and work to resolve them. According to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, there has been 45 percent physical progress of the project.

Under the expressway project, more than 87 bridges need to be constructed. Among them are some special bridges as high as 82 meters. The project also includes seven tunnels. As the construction of the high bridges has reached its final stage, the Army has stated that the project will be completed within the stipulated deadline of the end of Chaitra 2083 and within the initially estimated cost of NPR 213 billion.

This will be the shortest highway directly connecting the Kathmandu Valley with the central Terai. After completion, it is expected to significantly reduce the cost and time required to transport goods from the Terai to Kathmandu and make a substantial contribution to the country’s economic development.
