The Election Commission (EC) held its first round of consultations with political parties on October 16 regarding the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5. During the meeting, major political parties, including the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML, urged the interim government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki to create a conducive and secure environment for the polls.
While the CPN-UML emphasized the need to prioritize the dissolution of Parliament over holding elections, other parties such as the Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist Center) reiterated their commitment to the electoral process. Despite differing priorities, the parties shared a common concern: the government has not taken adequate steps to ensure a favorable atmosphere for the elections.
Political leaders raised serious concerns about security, citing ongoing threats from various groups. They called on the government to intensify efforts to guarantee safety and stability in the lead-up to the vote.
