Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the entire party should now focus on the upcoming general convention.
Addressing the party’s Central Working Committee meeting on Tuesday, he stated that he has already set the general convention process in motion and that it will not be halted. He also emphasized that no one should hold grudges over who did or did not participate in the special convention. Thapa was elected party president from the general convention held in January this year, dislodging long-time Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
“A special convention was held under a unique circumstance. A new leadership emerged from that convention. We participated in the election. The question of who took part or did not take part before or after the special convention is now over,” he said.
President Thapa added that no one should be viewed with prejudice during the general convention and that he intends to move forward by including everyone.
“I have taken charge as president and set this process in motion. It will not stop. I have said that there will be no bias based on who was or was not part of the special convention,” he said. “I have also urged the vice presidents and some leaders—we will move forward by including everyone.”
