The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has secured more than five million votes under the Proportional Representation (PR) category in Nepal’s recent elections, according to the Election Commission of Nepal.
The party, led by Rabi Lamichhane, received 5,071,274 votes in the PR system. Earlier, the party had also emerged as the largest force under the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) category, winning 125 out of 165 seats.
According to the Election Commission, the Nepali Congress secured 1,722,124 votes, followed by the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) with 1,432,600 votes. The Nepal Communist Party obtained 785,460 votes, while the Shram Sanskriti Party secured 370,491 votes. The Rastriya Prajatantra Party received 327,358 votes.
Altogether 64 political parties, using 58 different election symbols, contested the elections. However, only four political parties are likely to secure seats under the PR system, as parties must obtain at least three percent of the total valid votes to qualify for proportional representation seats.
