UML demands revival of Parliament

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has demanded the restoration of the Parliament as there are no environment for holding the free and fair elections on March 5. Here are the major points of Oli’s document presented in the party’s Central Working Committee.

  •  The demands forth by Gen-Z youths was justified, as it opposed the social media ban, called for controlling corruption, and advocated for maintaining good governance.
  • Our intention was not to shut down social media but merely to regulate it.
  • Violence on September 8: Was it merely a security lapse, or were there other vested interests involved? It is essential to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and bring those responsible to justice.
  • September 9: In reality, this incident was a continuation of the so-called Color Revolutions that global powers have carried out in different countries since the Cold War.
  • The objective was not merely to change the government but to undermine Nepal’s sovereignty, democracy, and constitution—plunging the country into a geopolitical vortex.
  • As a caretaker Prime Minister, I had recommended forming a government within the framework of the constitution, but an unconstitutional path was chosen. Therefore, this government is unconstitutional.
  • The unconstitutional dissolution of parliament must be reversed, and the parliament should be reinstated.
  • The government is not moving forward on the path to conduct elections; instead, it is heading in the opposite direction.
  • UML is ready to address the demands of Gen-Z.

Earlier, addressing the CC, Oli made followings remarks

I am ready to give up the party’s leadership if the Central Committee decides so. However, I urge everyone not to seek my resignation through Facebook posts.

  • Oli accused the current government of pushing the country towards regression by hijacking the Gen-Z movement.
  • He claimed that the current government is unconstitutional, stating that the Constitution does not allow a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to become the Prime Minister.
  • According to him, the government’s intention is not to hold elections, and it is deliberately delaying the democratic process.
  • Oli announced that the CPN-UML will launch a movement to press for the restoration of Parliament.
  • He admitted that although the party had received information about plans to launch a violent movement, they failed to prevent it.
  • Oli called on the leaders and cadres aligned with Madhav Kumar Nepal to return to the UML and strengthen party unity.
  • People should remember that UML is not out of power forever, he stated, hinting at a political comeback.
