Dismissed PM Oli Urges Revival of Dissolved Parliament

Kathmandu, Nepal – Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who was ousted from office following the September 8–9 protests, has made a series of bold statements that could further complicate Nepal’s already fragile political landscape.

Speaking at a press conference, Oli strongly opposed the dissolution of Parliament, asserting that his party, the CPN-UML, would not wait until March 5, the date set by the current government for general elections. Instead, he called for the immediate revival of Parliament through a court order, urging the Nepali Congress to support this move.

Oli also dismissed the probe committee led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, labeling it a “mere drama” lacking legitimacy. He claimed the formation of the current government was unconstitutional, arguing that it does not reflect the aspirations of the Nepali people.

Defending his controversial decision to ban social media platforms during his tenure, Oli insisted the move was “justifiable” and maintained that his position on the matter remains unchanged.

In a strong rebuke of the current political arrangement, he criticized the idea of a former Chief Justice assuming the role of executive head, stating it violates democratic principles and the separation of powers.

Oli also condemned recent acts of arson and vandalism during protests and called for strong action against those involved.

As political tensions continue to rise, Oli’s remarks are expected to intensify debate over the legitimacy of the current administration and the path forward for Nepal’s democratic process.
